DGS18-1 Springs In New Jersey

IMAGEMETADATA

Abstract

This Geographic Information System (GIS) point shapefile of New Jersey Springs with associated database file, projection file and metadata, contains point locations and other attributes for 507 known spring locations in New Jersey mapped by the New Jersey Geological Survey (NJGS). The springs are found in all areas of the state. New Jersey has hundreds of springs which serve as focal points for a thriving recreation industry in many state, county and local parks. They provide for recreational opportunities such as hiking, fishing and swimming and are generally places of unusual natural beauty. They contribute indirectly to the economy by sustaining the flow of streams. The geodatabase also contains accessory tables including discharge rates, chemistry, cultural characteristics, discharge characteistics, discharge rates, ecology, geology, and geomorphology. These accessory tables can be joined together with the springs feature class based on a unique ID number in the geodatabase. The GIS point layer (ESRI geodatabase files) and metadata are compressed as a .zip file for download. This map is for illustration purposes only.
